March 16, 2001, Newsletter Issue #8: Query Letters Introduction

Tip of the Week

The simplist way to write a query letter is to remember the 3 S`s: Sincerty, Substance and Skill.

Show the editor that you are excited about your subject. After all, if you aren`t excited, why should they be? Write with the enthusiasm you had when you first envisioned this manuscript.

Provide strong sales points that show what your article is about and why your readers would connect to it. Don`t just say here is my story. Give them your passion as to why this story is important.

Explain your special skills, research or expertise in this area. Why are you the person to write this story. Let editors know that you have knowledge about this area and that you are not just writing off the top of your head.
