February 17, 2006, Newsletter Issue #68: Explaining the Song

Tip of the Week

Itīs always good to have a specific thought or reason in mind when writing a song. Do you have to tell this thought or reason to the world? Not at all. Sometimes itīs better to let each person in the audience relate to the song in his or her own way. That way the song becomes more personal. For example, you may have written a song about how much you love to eat chocolate, and other people might interpret the lyrics as referring to sex. Why ruin their fantasy?
