December 19, 2008, Newsletter Issue #211: Shopping Thrift Store and Garage Sales for Seasonal Gifts

Tip of the Week

When a kid gets something new, it doesnīt have to be brand spanking new. It may be used, but itīs "new" to him! Give tips on buying gifts at garage sales, thrift stores, and mark-down sales. Just because you found a brand new in-the-box Barbie doll at a garage sale for $2.00 doesnīt mean it isnīt just as good as the one Aunt Marcie bought for $29.95 at a retail store. Theyīre the same. Only you know what you paid. Children, especially, donīt have to have brand new toys as long as theyīre in excellent shape. Give tips on what to watch for, whatīs trendy and what is always popular. Donīt forget about checking on-line auctions and local auctions, too. Show how you can get a room full of toys and gifts for very little money - as compared to the same room full of toys and gifts bought at regular prices. Donīt forget to mention to wrap all presents individually so it looks like a mountain of gifts. A pack of batteries would be a separately wrapped present, perhaps taped to the object it goes into.
